New visa reforms in UAE to begin on October 21

The sweeping reforms to the UAE visa system will take into effect starting October 21, announced by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship on Wednesday.

One of these reforms approved by the UAE Cabinet is the adjustment of visa status of visitors ( after the expiry date of their entry permit for visit or tourism) without having to leave the country. They will be given a 30-day visit visa so that they will no longer have to exit the country.

The move is expected to ease the financial burden on visitors by extending their visa for a minimal fee.

Another reform gives visa extension for widows, divorced women and their kids. “The decision grants widows and divorced women and their children a one-year residence without the need for a sponsor. It aims to give women the opportunity to adjust their social and economic status,” the Cabinet said.

With the new law, graduates will also be granted enough time to decide on career paths. Students will be given a two-year visa extension after their studies.
