Senator Antonio Trillanes IV has posted bail worth Php200,000 granting him temporary freedom following his arrest for his 2007 Manila Peninsula siege case.
After the Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 150 issued the warrant arrest allowing the Police to arrest Trillanes, the senator voluntarily surrendered and underwent booking procedure, including posing for mugshots, at the Makati Police headquarters.
Judge Elmo Alameda granted the request of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) request for a warrant of arrest against Trillanes for the senator’s rebellion charges voided by the amnesty issued by former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
Aside from the arrest warrant, the Makati Court also issued a hold departure order against the senator. The order stated that Trillanes could post a P200,000 bail for his temporary freedom.
Earlier, Duterte ordered the revocation of amnesty of Trillanes, one of his biggest critics.
Proclamation 572 dated August 31, 2018 mentioned that the senator did not file an Official Amnesty Application Form as per certification issued by Lt. Col. Thea Joan Andrade, stating that “there is no copy of his (Trillanes) application for amnesty in the records” and that the senator “never expressed his guilt for the crimes that were committed on the occasion of the Oakwood Mutiny and the Manila Peninsula Siege.”
It was also stated in the proclamation that: “The grant of amnesty [given] to Trillanes under Proclamation No. 75 is declared void ab initio because he did not comply with the minimum requirements to qualify under the amnesty proclamation.”
