Authorities reveal cause of Dubai Marina Tower fire

The cause of the fire that damaged a residential building in Dubai Marina last May 13 has been released by authorities.

A report by Al Barsha Police Station said that the fire, which gutted 15 floors on the western side of Zen Tower, started on the first floor balcony, reported Arabian Business.

The area where the fire started is where pieces of furniture are kept outdoors. The furniture caught fire due to an electric short circuit or from smoking waste.

Experts believe that the electric heater that is also kept on the said balcony might have started the fire.

“The furniture caught fire due to a flammable source that was enough to start the blaze. The source was either a short circuit in the lights or the electric heater. [However], it could have been from smoking waste landing on the furniture, causing thermal glow with smoke, and that quickly turned into a blaze due to strong winds,” the report stated.

Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri at Dubai Police confirmed that the fire started at the first floor but it quickly spread throughout the building due to the windy weather that day.

According to previous reports, there were no reported casualties in the said incident.

The Dubai Media Office said on Twitter that residents were evacuated just in time and that no one got hurt in the fire incident. Firefighters were able to control the fire within 45 minutes.

Since the incident, Dubai residents have also reached out a helping hand and sent donations to those who were affected by the fire.
