A four-year-old Filipina sustained serious injuries after falling from the fourth floor of a housing board flat in Tampines in Singapore.
The little girl, identified as Sachi Hailey Unique Cruz, was left alone in their flat when her grandmother went to a nearby market, reported Straits Times.
According to the victim’s mother, Jenica Julien Santelices, said the flat’s door and windows were closed when her grandmother left.
Police officers were already in the area when the grandmother arrived.
“She went up to our flat and looked for Sachi but she was not in the apartment and the window was open,” said Santelices.
“My mother went downstairs nervously to check what was happening and saw Sachi on the ground, together with the police and lots of people.”
Sachi was immediately brought to Changi General Hospital.
The girl survived the fall. However, she fractured her spine and shoulder, and suffered internal bleeding in her lungs and liver.
“As of today, she’s fine, the internal bleeding has stopped and we’re just waiting for the MRI this Friday to know if she needs an operation,” Santelices said.
Santelices pleaded for financial help to support her daughter’s hospitalization.
“The only problem is we are in need of financial (help) to support her medical expenses,” she said.
Lesson tomorrow be learned: Never leave a child alone in the house.
