Officials: Kian delos Santos was kneeling when shot

The medico-legal officers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) differed on the distance and number of gunshot wounds, but they agreed that 17-year-old Kian Loyd delos Santos was kneeling with his face down on the ground when police officers shot and killed him.

This was the concession of forensic experts from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) when they were called to the Senate for having conflicting results in their autopsies.

In PAO’s examination, Delos Santos sustained three entry wounds and two exit wounds. Dr. Erwin Erfe of PAO said the 17-year-old was down on the ground while the shooter was standing.

“‘Yung trajectory po kasi ay acute angle, pababa. Pero doon sa katawan niya ay paitaas. Ang posisyon po ay nakatayo ang shooter at nakasubsob na po si Kian. Nasa paanan ‘yung shooter,” he said.

On the other hand, Chief Insp. Jocelyn Cruz, the PNP medico-legal in-charge of examining Delos Santos’ remains said the two gunshots he received indicated that he was kneeling when he was shot by the police.

When Sen. Bam Aquino showed Cruz a photo of a dead Delos Santos, kneeling with his face on the ground, the chief inspector confirmed that was his position before he got shot.

“Yes, your honor, based on the injuries that I’ve examined,” she said.

Delos Santos’ OFW mom Lorenza also attended the Senate hearing today to defend her son from various accusations against him.
