China gives P15M aid for Marawi rehab

China has pledged to give P15 million (Dh1.08 million) to fund the government’s relief operations and rehabilitation projects for Marawi City.

The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) said the donation “will augment the resources of the Department of Health and the Department of Social Welfare Development, for its relief operations in Marawi.

PCOO said in a press release that President Rodrigo Duterte received the check from Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Zao Jianhua on Tuesday.

“[This] is an example of the flourishing partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment towards sustainable peace in the region,” PCOO said.

Several countries have offered support to the Philippines since extremists seized Marawi on May 23 after government troops attempted to capture Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon in the city.

The US military helped in the operation against the militants by lending defense equipment while Australia deployed spy planes and donated P34.5 million (Dh2.50 million) worth of relief goods.
