DSWD to help dependents of slain soldiers, police put up business

The Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) office in Davao is providing business capital and training to dependents of military and police personnel who were killed in action in the Marawi City fighting.

In a news release issued Thursday, the department said they have held one-on-one sessions with the dependents to assess their business proposals and the skills training they need. The sessions were held at the RTC Korea Philippines Vocational Training Center in Buhisan, Tibungco last May 24-26. The activity was spearheaded by the Department of National Defense, in partnership with the trade department, the National Housing Authority, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA),

The DSWD said that under the government’s Comprehensive Social Benefits Program, the dependents, through various government agencies, stand to benefit from the Special Financial Assistance amounting to P250,000 from the Office of the President, and additional P250,000 for livelihood upon completion of the Capacity Training and Capability Building for Financial Management Skills and Livelihood.

DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo said the initiative is being done nationwide and not just in Davao. (PNA)
