RAK to unveil new tourist attraction for height lovers

A newest attraction for height lovers will be opened near Ras Al Khaimah’s Jebel Jais, the highest peak in the UAE, in October.

Currently under construction, the newest attraction features observation decks that boosts of heights even taller than Burj Khalifa.

Once completed, the platforms will offer a view of the Al Hajar mountain range, extending into Fujairah and Northern Oman.

The Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) hopes the new attraction will boost engagement from hikers and non-hikers alike.

According to the RAKTDA, the viewing decks will be a respite for tourists and citizens as it will offer a relaxing view of the sun as well as the local wildlife.

RAKTDA’s chief executive Haitham Mattar promises that the attraction will gather positive feedbacks: “The deck will let visitors take in stunning sea and mountain views, and the magnificent sunrises and sunsets.”

The platform will also be an attraction for those who want to get away from the summer heat as the mountain top offers a much cooler temperature of ten degrees lower at sea level.

During winter, the mountain will have freezing temperatures and may even have snow.

Beyond the glimpses of nature, steps to preserve the area’s natural beauty are also being observed.

Solar energy will be utilized to power up food trucks and an events arena that are also included in the plans for the mountain top.

“We have worked very hard to implement natural, locally-sourced materials into the site – we want the Jebel Jais Observation Deck to blend as seamlessly as possible into the mountain façade,” said Mattar.

According the RATDA, the observation decks are part of a series of initiatives to further boost tourism for the RAK mountain following the opening of Jebel Jais Via Ferrata last November.
