MRT commuters endure few, slow trains

Fifteen trains instead of 20 running at 40 kph speed were endured by commuters of the MRT in EDSA during the morning rush hours on Wednesday and Thursday.

The MRT management restored the previous service of 20 trains on rush hours and up to 60 kph speed on Friday, but not after causing delayed arrivals for most of its passengers the days before.

The speed and the number of trains running during peak hours were temporarily reduced for the conduct of a safety inspection to determine if additional trains can already be deployed, the Department of Transportation explained in a press statement issued Thursday.

The inspection of train wheel axles was to be done for four days, but MRT-3 Director for Operations Deo Leo Manalo said the MRT3 maintenance team will complete the task at the soonest possible time.

The LTFRB deployed city buses as alternative transportation for MRT-3 passengers.
