Dubai Police warn vs fake Hajj and Umrah packages amid rising online scams

Residents planning to perform Hajj and Umrah have been urged to stay vigilant after the Dubai Police warned of a rise in fraudulent pilgrimage campaigns circulating online.

The warning, issued by the Dubai Police Anti-Fraud Centre under the General Department of Criminal Investigation, is part of the ongoing “Be Aware of Fraud” campaign aimed at protecting the public from increasingly sophisticated cyber scams.

Authorities said fraudsters are exploiting the strong demand for Hajj and Umrah by promoting fake travel packages through social media platforms and websites.

These deceptive advertisements often feature heavily discounted prices, attractive offers, and false promises of guaranteed bookings and simplified travel arrangements.

According to Dubai Police, scammers typically claim they can secure “guaranteed” pilgrimage slots at below-market rates or fast-track visas and permits. Victims are then asked to send advance payments before the fraudsters disappear without providing any legitimate services.

Officials noted that such schemes tend to surge in the weeks leading up to Hajj and Umrah seasons, as more people search online for affordable pilgrimage deals.

During this period, scammers intensify their operations by creating fake accounts and websites, impersonating legitimate companies, and using copied logos and professional-looking promotional materials to appear credible.

Dubai Police stressed that residents should only book through officially licensed and approved Hajj and Umrah operators authorized by relevant authorities, and avoid engaging with unverified or unknown entities regardless of how appealing the offers may seem.
