Dubai RTA updates driver training curriculum to include advanced vehicle safety technologies

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has revised its light vehicle driving license training curriculum to align with modern automotive technologies and international road safety standards.

The updated program now integrates training on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which are increasingly standard in new vehicles. These include forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist systems, parking assist features, night vision systems, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), as well as conventional and adaptive cruise control.

According to Sultan Al Akraf, Director of Drivers Licensing at RTA, the revised curriculum follows internationally recognized standards set by the CIECA.

He said the initiative aims to enhance road safety, shape responsible driving behavior, and reduce traffic accidents by ensuring learners are familiar with emerging in-vehicle technologies.

Al Akraf added that the updated materials were developed in coordination with driving institutes across Dubai and have been integrated into driver handbooks, theoretical training modules, practical driving lessons, and awareness lectures for license applicants.

The RTA said the overhaul is part of its broader strategy to promote smarter mobility, improve road safety, and deliver innovative and sustainable transport services that enhance customer experience.

Officials also noted that more than 250,000 trainees have already benefited from the updated training approach in recent years.

Workshops have been conducted for driving institutes across the emirate to ensure consistent understanding and application of advanced driving systems in line with modern training vehicles.
