Vice President Sara Duterte said she is leaving matters related to her impeachment to her legal team, saying she has no personal feelings about the issue.
“Sa impeachment, mayroon kaming spokesperson at defense team para sa impeachment. ‘Yan ay isang legal na proseso at iwan na lang natin sa spokesperson at sa abogado ang pag-komento,” Duterte said in an interview.
When asked how she felt about the House of Representatives’ decision to impeach her, Duterte replied: “Wala akong feelings about the impeachment.”
The House of Representatives earlier voted 257-25-9 to impeach the Vice President and transmit the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate, which is expected to convene as an impeachment court.
Duterte’s defense team said they are ready to face the proceedings before the Senate.
“While questions of constitutional significance remain pending before the Supreme Court, we are fully prepared to defend the Vice President before the Senate sitting as an Impeachment Court, where it is incumbent upon the Prosecution to discharge the burden of proof,” her lawyers said in a statement.
In an earlier interview, Duterte also thanked her supporters for their continued trust and compassion, saying not all public officials are fortunate enough to receive the same level of support.
