Dubai Police has rolled out specialized training courses for male and female inmates as part of efforts to strengthen rehabilitation, build practical skills, and support successful reintegration into society after release.
The programs, implemented under the second-quarter plan of the Inmate Education and Training Department of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, aim to enhance inmates’ academic, vocational, and personal development through structured learning initiatives.
Brigadier Salah Buassiba, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Institutions, said correctional facilities have evolved into learning and development centers that provide structured programs to prepare inmates for life after incarceration.
He said the Inmate Education and Training Department operates through four main divisions, educational, religious, sports, and vocational programs, forming a comprehensive rehabilitation framework.
The educational division supports inmates continuing their studies at various levels, offering learning materials, literacy support, and digital skills training, while also encouraging productive use of time and talent development.
The religious programs include lectures, seminars, and Quran memorization sessions aimed at strengthening moral values and communication skills.
The sports division conducts recreational and competitive activities to promote physical health, well-being, and social interaction.
The vocational training division provides practical courses to improve employability, encourage entrepreneurship, and equip inmates with job-ready skills.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Abdullah Al Obaidli, Director of the Inmate Education and Training Department, said the latest training cycle includes a smart agriculture course attended by 35 inmates and a free drawing course with 10 participants.
Female inmates also participated in specialized training, including fabric painting attended by eight inmates and a basic flower cultivation course involving 21 participants.
Dubai Police said the initiative underscores its commitment to transforming correctional institutions into rehabilitation-focused environments that promote growth, opportunity, and safer communities.
