DOE, PNOC secure 21,000 MT LPG from US to strengthen supply amid Middle East crisis

The Department of Energy (Department of Energy (Philippines)) and the Philippine National Oil Company (Philippine National Oil Company) have procured 21,000 metric tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the United States to ensure stable fuel supply amid the ongoing Middle East crisis.

In a statement, the DOE said the shipment is scheduled to arrive between May 20 and 31 and will be discharged in Batangas. It is expected to boost the country’s LPG inventory and strengthen supply buffers for households and businesses.

“The incoming shipment will boost the country’s LPG inventory and strengthen supply buffers,” the DOE said, adding that it is coordinating with government agencies and industry stakeholders to maintain energy security and protect consumers relying on LPG for daily needs.

The development comes as consumers also experienced a price rollback earlier this week.

LPG supplier Solane cut prices by P3.36 per kilogram, inclusive of VAT, effective April 21 at 6:00 a.m. This translates to a P33 reduction per 11-kilogram LPG cylinder, according to the LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA).

LPGMA founder Arnel Ty said the rollback was driven by lower shipping and transport costs.
