Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has warned residents to remain alert against unauthorised messages and links that falsely claim to come from official entities, as part of efforts to protect personal data and strengthen information security.
In a public advisory, the RTA urged residents not to engage with suspicious messages circulating via SMS and other platforms.
The authority shared an example of a scam message reported by several residents, which claims to be from the RTA and warns of an unpaid traffic fine of Dh50, threatening an additional Dh500 penalty if immediate payment is not made.
The RTA cautioned the public against clicking unknown links or providing personal, financial, or banking details to unverified sources. It stressed that all services and information should only be accessed through official RTA platforms.
“To protect customers’ data and enhance information security, RTA urges the public to be cautious of unauthorised messages or links that may impersonate official entities,” the authority said.
The warning comes after an earlier alert from the Dubai Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), which reported a rise in scam calls where fraudsters pose as government agencies to obtain personal and financial information. Residents have reported receiving both automated and live calls claiming to be from official authorities.
TDRA advised residents to immediately hang up on suspicious calls, block the numbers, avoid further engagement, never share personal or financial information, and rely only on verified government channels.
Authorities reiterated the need for constant vigilance, noting that scammers continue to use increasingly sophisticated methods to target the public.
