Woman faces charges over ‘fake news’ on white van kidnapping; fined with P200,000

The Naval Municipal Police Station in Biliran Province filed charges against a 19 year-old woman who created fake news on being a victim of white van kidnapping. 

The police said that there is no truth to the woman’s social media post about being a kidnapping victim.

After a thorough investigation, the police discovered that the woman is fabricating her stories and changed her statement from time to time.

The CCTV also showed that there was no kidnapping incident that took place.

The woman is now facing charges for violating Article 154 ng Revised Penal Code, or Consummated Unlawful Use of Means of Publication and Unlawful Utterances.

The Biliran Police Provincial Office appealed to the public to stop spreading fake news.

The woman will face jail time and will be penalized with a fine of P200,000 to P400,000.
