Employers denying insurance to OFWs to be blacklisted by POEA

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) could blacklist employers as well as recruitment agencies in case of failure to provide insurance coverage to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia said erring agencies will face action for non-compliance and the blacklisting would mean that recruiters can’t hire OFWs.

Olalia, however, said negotiations will precede the move.

Earlier, the Department of Labor and Employment issued an order about the insurance coverage which will cover the duration of the worker’s employment contract. The insurance benefits to the employees include on death, disability, repatriation and medical emergency.
