The cost of airfares to the UAE has witnessed a significant rise as the stranded passengers return to the country.
After the easing of travel restrictions, ticket prices have shot up. Travel agents have attributed the rise to a surge in demand.

A travel agent in India said usually the Delhi-Dubai one-way ticket costs between AED 750 and AED 900 on economy class, but the ticket prices have now crossed AED 2,000 and are likely to go up further.
Rauf Khan, a Karachi-based travel agent, said that people from areas like Lyari and Baldia town have been stuck since the Eid Al Fitr celebrations.

He said that some of the stranded people who work as petty laborers are left with very less options and also borrow money for tickets.
The stranded residents had been exploring another option to go on quarantine for 14 days in a third country before returning to the UAE which however cost significantly higher than the one-way ticket. (AW)
