Filipinos in Bahrain may register for overseas voting until Sept 30

The Embassy of the Philippines in Bahrain has reminded Filipinos residing there to register for the next year’s Philippine national elections.

Embassy officials said that those who have not registered yet can do so by visiting the office in Bahrain’s Mahooz area.

The elections are slated for May 2022. The overseas registration will be open until September 30.

The authorities at the Embassy further said that the details of biometrics will be taken for the voter registration and have asked the people to also bring along a photocopy of a valid passport.

For seafarers, a seaman’s book is required aside from a copy of the Philippine passport, officials said.

This marks the full opening of the consular access services which had remained affected due to the COVID pandemic.

The embassy had started its operations in October last year after remaining closed for several months due to the COVID pandemic.

Those designated as Overseas Filipinos Workers (OFWs), those residing and working abroad, will benefit from the registration.

An estimated 60,000 Filipinos are living and working in Bahrain including those in both the skilled, semi skilled categories or in household services.

The overseas voters can cast the ballot at designated places including the embassies from April 10 to May 9. Overseas Filipinos will vote for the positions of president, vice president, 12 senators, and other officials.

Filipinos in the UAE only need to walk-in at the Philippine Embassy in the UAE for Abu Dhabi visa holders together with their passport and fill out a form to register for overseas voting.

Those holding residence visas issued in Dubai and the Northern Emirates should set an appointment for overseas voting registration at the Philippine Consulate in Dubai by sending an email to [email protected]
