As many as 30,000 seafarers have been deployed abroad in May by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), and this figure is just half of the numbers sent out since January 2021.
POEA administrator Bernard Olalia said on June 25 that the present figures are a good indicator of the slowly recovering pandemic market.

Meanwhile, former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and his allies in Congress met a seafarers group that had been given Php10,000 in cash assistance from the ‘Sampung Libong Pag-asa’ program at the Mercado del Lago in Taguig City, in celebration of this year’s Day of the Seafarer.
The program witnessed 300 beneficiaries of the cash aid, of which 100 were chosen real-time via a Facebook livestream. Prior to the event, a pre-show called the ‘Ayuda Bayanihan Caravan’ was aired on Cayetano’s official Facebook page, where another 16 beneficiaries received their cash assistance.
