The Sharjah Police said that they have finished the installation of 11,304 high tech CCTV surveillance cameras in order to ensure the safety of the emirate.
In a report by Gulf News, Major General Saif Al Ziri Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, said that the project of installing surveillance cameras is now 60 percent at Sharjah City, 20 percent in the Central Region, and 20 percent in the Eastern Region.
Major General Al Shamsi added that the project includes installing 500 analytical surveillance cameras, 750 cameras that detect vehicle licence plates, and 10,054 early alarm warning cameras.
The police chief said that the security system in the entire UAE has improved in the last 50 years.
He said that the Ministry of Interior (MOI), led by Lt. General Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, made it clear about the vision of UAE to be among the safest countries in the world.
The police chief said that Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai were recognized by foreign institutions to be among areas with top caliber security and safety systems.
Sharjah has ranked sixth globally in terms of the safest cities in the world with a rate of 83.5 percent.
Major General Al Shamsi explained that Sharjah Police will continue to do its work in ensuring safety and work together with communities to build or to earn the trust of the public.
Apart from the surveillance cameras, the Sharjah police also invested in a number of patrols and overall security presence, which reduced the crime rate, as well as through employing modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and drones. The Sharjah police also launched its E-Patrols programme to monitor cyber crimes.
The Sharjah Police also took on a major role during the coronavirus pandemic, ensuring that basic health protocols will be followed.
“The Sharjah Police organised several security awareness programmes targeting all segments of the community, which played a key role in its plan and strategy aimed at addressing all natural and social phenomena, by raising the public’s awareness,” he affirmed. (TDT)
