PSA to register 9 million Filipinos under National ID system by year end

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is confident that it can meet its target of 5 million registration for the National ID system by end of November.

The PSA announced on Friday that as of November 4, around 3.315 million Filipinos completed Step 1 of the registration process.

The first step involves the house-to-house collection of data and information gathering of low-income households.

National Statistician Claire Dennis S. Mapa said that the PSA can complete the registration of 9 million Filipinos by the end of 2020.

Average registration process usually last for 4.9 minutes and therefore allowing each PSA enumerator to register 46 Filipinos per day.

The PSA said that on their data, 175,842 did not have any ID while 429,174 had voter’s ID.

A total of 166,674 of those registered had Senior Citizen IDs; 144,743 had driver’s licenses; 134,565 had PhilHealth IDs; and 81,481 had birth certificates.

Around 88 percent of the registrants said that they have the necessary documents or valid IDs as required by the PSA to proceed with the Step 2 of the national ID system.

The second step involved collecting biometric information such as fingerprints, iris, and facial photographs at designated registration centers.

Step 3 will be the distribution of the PhilSys ID number and the physical card.
