Distressed OFWs in Bahrain treated with Christmas gifts amid repatriation process

Distressed Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Bahrain were given Christmas gifts last December 27 while waiting for their repatriation to the Philippines, Filipino daily Philippine Star reported.

The OFWs and their 27 children staying in 13 of the shelter wards of the Philippine Embassy in Bahrain received Christmas package and cash at the year-end party held at the Embassy grounds.

Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs Robert Borje—who is also appointed Special Envoy of the President to Tunisia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kingdom of Bahrain—assured the distressed OFWs that their repatriation is now being processed, and that the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy are doing what they can to better serve them. He also pointed out that the Embassy is working with Bahraini authorities to address the concerns of OFWs in the Kingdom.

Borje added that the government is also making its best efforts to create more jobs in the Philippines so Filipinos would no longer need to find work abroad.
