Robin Padilla backpedals, apologizes to Army colonel for his West Philippine Sea ‘militia challenge’

Netizens slammed actor Robin Padilla for backing out from his ‘militia challenge’ in the West Philippine Sea.

Padilla made the challenge on his Facebook live calling out retired senior associate justice Antonio Carpio and other opposition Senators Francis Pangilinan and Risa Hontiveros for expressing their views on the South China Sea dispute.

“Kung talagang matapang kayo, sumama kayo sa akin. Tayo ay maging militia. Tapatan natin ‘yung militia nung mga Chinese. Pumunta tayo doon, lumayag tayo, mangisda tayo doon. Tumambay din tayo roon kasi atin ito. Yung aking alok sa inyo ay seryoso. Pina-public ko ito para hindi tayo nagbobolahan lang,” Padilla said.

While a number of netizens accepted Padilla’s call, Army Col. Mike Logico responded to his post and accepted the challenge as well.

Logico is the director of the joined and combined training center of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Logico told Padilla to get a haircut, apply for MNSA and he will be Padilla’s instructor, and then apply for CGSC.

“If you make it past Step 3, you will have the minimum competency to become an RCDG Commander. That will put you in a slightly better position to challenge anyone,” Logico said.

Padilla, on the other hand, backpedalled and said that it’s too late for him to become a highly trained officer.

“Sir, you being a decorated ranking officer of the army, I salute you. I apologize if in any way I have offended you with my video,” Padilla responded.

“Sir, it’s too late for me to dream and become a highly trained officer like you. If destiny allows it, I will see you there in the high seas not as a foe but as a civilian ally,” he added.
