Vice Ganda speaks up on Filipinos being told they “can’t choose” COVID-19 vaccine

Kapamilya comedian and host Vice Ganda took to Twitter to air his sentiments about how Filipinos should not be “choosy” when it comes to the COVID-19 vaccine that will be given to them once the rollout begins.

“Sa sabong panlaba nga choosy tayo e sa bakuna pa kaya. Ano to basta may maisaksak lang?! Vaklang twoooaahhh!!!,” Vice said in a tweet on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021.

His comment came after Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque issued a statement on Monday that Filipinos should not be choosy at this time, since there are also a lot of Filipino who need to be vaccinated.

The comedian’s tweet also garnered mix reactions on the social media platform.

Others agreed and came to the comedian’s defense while there was one netizen who asked him why he was not that choosy during the 2016 elections.

Although he did not openly campaign for anyone in the 2016 elections, he previously expressed his desire for then Davao City Mayor and now President Rodrigo Duterte’s bid for the presidential seat.

Roque’s remark on Monday earned mixed reactions even from incumbent officials. For Senate president Tito Sotto, “it should not be a big deal” since you can’t force something on a person who doesn’t want it.

Senator Risa Hontiveros criticized Roque for his remark, saying even the president himself has a choice what COVID-19 vaccine should be used.

Roque on Monday reiterated that they don’t have control as to what vaccine would be readily available once the rollout on the vaccination program will begin this year.

Roque said those who are on the vaccination priority list can sign a waiver should they wish to not get vaccinated. However, he warned that they will lose their slot on the list. (ES)
