Dubai consulate denies link between viral video and ‘maleta’ controversy

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai has denied claims linking a viral video showing Consul General Ambrosio Brian Enciso III assisting overseas Filipinos with luggage to the so-called “maleta” controversy.

In a statement sent to The Filipino Times, the Consulate said the footage was recorded during a repatriation and welfare assistance operation conducted in March 2026.

According to the Consulate, the video shows Enciso and other consular personnel helping overseas Filipinos with their luggage as part of assistance efforts for Filipinos affected by emergency situations.

The Consulate said the footage was originally livestreamed by The Global Stories DXB and has since been circulated online without proper context.

“The video has no connection to the so-called ‘maleta’ controversy,” the Consulate said.

The diplomatic mission emphasized that its personnel remain focused on protecting the rights and welfare of Filipinos in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, particularly during emergencies.

It added that the Consulate will continue serving overseas Filipinos through welfare assistance, repatriation efforts, and other consular services.
