Lea Salonga supports ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal

World-renowned theater actress and singer Lea Salonga said she supports the call against ABS-CBN’s shutdown.
The international singer posted the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines’ (NUJP) petition to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN on her Twitter account.
According to Salonga, she has personal and professional reasons to support the appeal on online petitioning site Change.org.
“Yes, I have personal and professional reasons for this one. Not gonna lie,” she said.


The NUJP launched the petition on January 17, 2020, to gather one million signs to support the congressional franchise renewal of ABS-CBN Corporation.

Salonga has been a part of ABS-CBN programs such as The Voice of the Philippines and ASAP Natin ‘To.
Meanwhile, she received support from her brother Gerald Salonga who serves as musical director of ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.
President Rodrigo Duterte repeatedly vowed to block the media giant’s franchise renewal over issues regarding the non-airing of his political advertisements last 2016 elections.
