Jessy Mendiola says she almost committed suicide due to depression

Kapamilya actress Jessy Mendiola revealed that she suffered from severe depression in the past which almost cost her life.

Mendiola said during a press conference of her upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival 2018 entry “The Girl in the Orange Dress” that she has attempted to end her life because of depression due to the online bullying and bashing she got from netizens.

She said that she suffered from the said mental illness for two years and it reached the point where she tried to kill herself by slashing her wrists.

The actress said that she was lucky that her friends found her and immediately helped her.

Mendiola said that the controversial plane encounter she had with Enrique Gil, her breakup with JM De Guzman, and the online negativity triggered her depression.

She added that she even wanted to quit show business because of it. Mendiola thought about going back to school or starting a new career path but blessing and projects came at just the right time.

Mendiola also said that she sought professional help to deal with her depression. She said that she is now “cured” and that she has moved on from that dark moment in her life.

Moreover, she also said that her experience pushed her to spread awareness on mental health.

She gave an advice to those experiencing depression to not be ashamed to seek help from family, friends, or even professional doctors.

Mendiola also said that she will be releasing a vlog soon to share her story and help spread awareness.

Now, Mendiola is in a much better place and is busy promoting her upcoming movie which also stars Jericho Rosales.
