Filipina wows “The Voice US” judges with Mariah Carey hit, advances to Knockout rounds

A Filipina singer is proving that she got what it takes to win the 15th season of the famous US singing competition “The Voice”.

20-year-old student RADHA, who hails from New Jersey, was able to advance to the Knockout rounds of the competition after beating fellow singer Fousheé to the song “Growing Pains” during the Battle Rounds.

RADHA first left a good impression with the judges during the blind auditions wherein she brought the house down with a Jessie J hit song.

She was able to turn three chairs and eventually chose Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine to be her coach.

RADHA then took the stage once again during the Knockout rounds and performed a powerful rendition of Mariah Carey’s version of Jackson 5’s “I’ll Be There”.

After her performance, Levine gave RADHA a standing ovation for her performance.

RADHA’s competitor during the Knockout rounds, Reagan Strange, then took her spot onstage to sing “Dancing on My Own” by Robyn.

At the end of their vocal battle, Levine chose Strange as the winner of the Knockout rounds.

Just when everyone thought it was the end for the Filipino singer, Levine decided to save her and keep her in the competition which will enable her to move on to the next round which is the Live Shows.

According to her bio on the NBC website, RADHA, short for Radharani, was born to Filipino parents who moved to the US to provide a better life for their family.

She added that music has been a big part of her life saying that she “learned how to read and sing at the same time”.

Outside of the competition, RADHA is a full-time student studying TV and digital media at Montclair State University.
