LOOK: Michael Cinco shares creations fit for Met Gala

Dubai-based Filipino fashion designer took to Instagram to showcase his ‘heavenly’ creations which are undeniably fitting for the religious theme of this year’s Met Gala.

The Met Gala, which is considered to be the biggest event in the fashion industry, took place last May 7 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City with the theme “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”.

According to Vogue UK, Met Gala 2018’s religious theme “will feature some 40 Vatican vestments and accessories spanning 15 papacies, which curator Andrew Bolton is said to have visited at least 10 times to secure pieces which have never left the Vatican’s possession before”.

“Items such as Pope Benedict XV’s white silk cape embroidered with gold thread and the pointed bishop’s hat of Pope Leo XIII, will go on display alongside pieces by Coco Chanel, who was educated by nuns, John Galliano, Cristóbal Balenciaga and Donatella Versace, who is a sponsor of the exhibition,” an article in Vogue UK read.

The bigwigs in fashion, film, music and art attended the event, each donning out-of-this-world masterpieces that show the perfect mix of fashion and religion.

Met Gala 2018, which also marked the event’s 70th anniversary, was co-chaired by barrister Amal Clooney, singer Rihanna, and fashion designer Donatella Versace.

In celebration of the said event, Filipino fashion designer Michael Cinco also shared some of his own creations on Instagram which completely captured this year’s theme.

Cinco uploaded a series of photos from his 2015 collection which he called “The Impalpable Dream of Sainte-Chapelle”.

“On Monday, May 7th, the Costume Institute will sanctify its love of fashion as it presents “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, designed to create a dialogue between fashion and the masterworks of religious art at the MET Gala 2018. My collection in 2015, “The
Impalpable Dream of Sainte-Chapelle”, where I presented hand-painted stained glass windows on couture dresses truly embodies the religious theme.” Cinco wrote on Instagram.

This is not the first time the Pinoy designer’s pieces have been featured in the auspicious fashion affair.

One of Cinco’s gowns has graced the red carpet of the Met Gala back in 2013, when British pop star Paloma Faith wore his creation during the event.
