Stephen Speaks to help wounded Marawi soldiers through benefit gigs

American singer-songwriter Rockwell Ryan Ripperger of the band Stephen Speaks is currently in the Philippines to hold benefit gigs for the soldiers who fought in Marawi.

A portion of the proceeds will be given to the wounded troops who fought in the five-month-long battle in Mindanao.

Ripperger said that it is his way to help the country that helped him launch his career when he was just beginning.

“When I was a kid, the Philippines helped me launch my music career and was so supportive of me, and we wanted to do something, a benefit. It’s the least I could do to help out – give a little back to a country that has given me so much. I’m honored to be a part of it, to help out,” he said in a press conference that was held in Taguig City.

Stephen Speaks is also set to release their new album entitled “Alive to Fight” and he said that he dedicates one music from this album to the wounded soldiers.

According to Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Ray Tiongson, there are still 96 wounded soldiers at the Army General Hospital in Taguig City and the V. Luna Medical Center in Quezon City.

Ripperger also left a message for the soldiers.

He said “Thank you guys for fighting. Thank you for sacrifices. When ‘Alive to Fight’ comes out I hope that inspires you, I hope it resonates with what you’re doing to keep the country free. I’ve seen the footage and the news. It’s been a struggle. You emerged victorious… I hope my music can bring you some comfort, courage and some joy.”

Stephen Speaks is the band behind the hits “Passenger Seat” and “Out of My League.”
