Being a Miss Universe means being exposed to the international scene, and the newly crowned queen Catriona Gray just got one of her first international debut as Miss Universe 2018 in the top fashion magazine, Vogue.
Vogue featured Gray on their online platform to talk about her signature walk which they described as “worthy of fashion month”.
The feature also stated that international supermodels Tyra Banks and Ashley Graham were impressed with Gray’s runway walk.
It can be recalled that Banks was stunned by Gray’s performance during the preliminary competition and even tweeted: “I mean… Pinoy Power to the max.”
After Gray won title, Banks, who have graced several fashion shows during her career, said that she approves Gray’s signature “lava walk”.
“I mean…NEXT LEVEL FIERCE! TyTy approves,” she said on Twitter.
Aside from Banks, model and body activist Ashley Graham was also left in awe with Gray’s performance.
Graham, who was also one of the pageant’s co-hosts, posted a photo on her Instagram Stories which reads: “Congratulations [to the] Philippines. You’re so beautiful and you deserve the crown.”
Vogue also said that Gray and her signature walk might find its way to the fashion scene in Milan or Paris.
Gray’s “lava walk” follows the other signature walks of former Miss Universe Philippines titleholders. Miss Universe 2010 4th runner-up Venus Raj had her “Pilapil walk”; Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner-up Shamcey Supsup was known for her “Tsunami walk”; Miss Universe 2012 1st runner-up Janine Tugonon also had her “Cobra walk”; Miss Universe 2013 3rd runner-up Ariella Arida “Arriba walk”; Miss Universe Philippines 2014 Mary Jean Lastimosa’s “Camel walk”; Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach made popular her “Tanim-bala walk”; Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina had “Alta walk”; and Miss Universe Philippines 2017 Rachel Peters had her “Infinity Walk”.
“’Yung major important aspect lang sa mga catwalk is really the posture and then the face and then hips…and the posture’s easy it’s parang invisible string lang. When you walk, you’re giving an aura,” Gray said in a previous interview with “Magandang Buhay” back in July.
Gray bagged the Philippines fourth Miss Universe crown last December 17 in Bangkok, Thailand.
