The Surigao City Airport will soon be repaired after a one year delay, said Special Assistant to the President Christoper “Bong” Go.
Speaking at the Bonok-Bonok Festival, Go said that he will speak with Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade to accelerate the process of the airport’s rehabilitation.
He added that bridges and roads affected by the earthquake will be prioritized as well, reported the PNA.
It can be recalled that a part of the airport’s runway cracked during a 6.7 magnitude earthquake that rocked Surigao del Norte in February 2017.
The damage of the runway caused the airport to stop its operations for Manila-bound flights, resulting in a longer, more expensive route via Butuan or Siargao.
The runway closure has also taken its toll on the local economy, said Councilor Rise Faith Recabo.
