Without a doubt, Maine Mendoza and Nadine Lustre are two of the brightest female celebrities of their generation.
Mendoza rose to fame thanks to her viral Dubsmash videos, while Lustre became a star overnight after the success of her film “Diary ng Panget”.
But way before Mendoza and Lustre got to where they are now, they also experienced the hardships and rejections that comes with trying to enter show business.
For some aspiring celebrities in the Philippines, reality TV is a great platform that will catapult them to stardom and at one point, Lustre and Mendoza also had the same mindset.
On Wednesday, June 6, ABS-CBN’s Head of TV Entertainment Lauren Dyogi published his first ever vlog on YouTube. There, he revealed that he has previously made some “bad calls” when it came to looking for new talents.
And one of his biggest regrets is rejecting Mendoza and Lustre from entering the ‘Pinoy Big Brother’ house.
In the video, Dyogi revealed that Mendoza previously auditioned for ‘Pinoy Big Brother 737’ in 2015.
Mendoza was not able to enter the house and Miho Nishida and Jimboy Martin became the season’s eventual winners.
Meanwhile, he also cited that Lustre tried her luck and auditioned for ‘Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010’.
Lustre had the same fate as Mendoza and failed to be part of the season’s roster of housemates.
Ironically, James Reid, who later became Lustre’s on-screen partner and real-life boyfriend, won that said season.
“Siyempre, isang tao lang ako. Marami pang ibang opportunities o avenues para sumikat. Marami na akong misses in the past. Maraming nag-audition sa akin na hindi ko napansin, pero sikat na sila ngayon,” Dyogi explained.
“That’s a bad call on my part. But then again, gano’n talaga. Siguro hindi ako ang kanilang kapalaran,” he added.
However, even though he missed some auditionees who are now big showbiz personalities, Dyogi said that he was also able to find PBB housemates who made it big in the industry, such as Maymay Entrata, Edward Barber, Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, Joshua Garcia, Ryan Bang, Bailey May, Sam Milby, Ylona Garcia, and Melai Cantiveros.
Aside from his revelation, Dyogi also talked about the ABS-CBN audition caravan, “Star Hunt”, where talent scouts try to look for new celebrities.
