Palace says bird flu strain not harmful
Malacañang announced that the avian flu virus that hit Pampanga province is not harmful to humans. Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said “there is no indication that this strain of avian flu is harmful to humans”, but the government will observe measures and will take precautions needed.

House panel votes to postpone village, SK polls
The House Committee of Suffrage and Electoral Reforms favored the postponement of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, which is scheduled on October 23, 2017 to May 2, 2018. The motion also calls for the holdover of village elections.

Government moves to prevent bird flu jump to humans
Philippine government agencies are scrambling to prevent the avian flu from spreading in many areas in the country, especially from jumping to humans. A nationwide inspection of poultry farms has been launched. The government has also culled poultry products in an area in San Luis town in Pampanga where the outbreak was first reported

HOUSE PANEL URGES PRESIDENT: Sack Faeldon
The Committee of Dangerous Drugs at the House of Representative called on President Rodrigo Duterte to immediately oust Bureau of Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon due to charges of incompetence and corruption. Rep. Robert Barbers, chairman of the panel, said Faeldon’s involvement in the shipment of P6.4 billion-worth illegal drugs is a “big embarrassment to President Duterte who ordered the raid of illegal drugs laboratories all over the country”.
