American stuck in Afghanistan recalls chaos at Kabul airport

An American with the Instagram handle @s.logan.p stated that the situation at the Hamid Karzai International Airport has calmed down after the chaotic evening of thousands of Afghanistan’s residents who swarmed the airport in their attempt to leave the country.

“Last night was pretty hairy after sunset. I was down by one of the gates at the far end of the compound. It was definitely some action going on – a lot of gunfire,” said Sean on his now deleted Instagram video.

Sean stated that the Hamid Karzai International Airport is now clear of any Afghan resident at the tarmac.

“Everything’s pretty chill right now in the compound at HKIA. This morning they’ve cleared off the tarmac. There’s no more Afghan civilians out on the tarmac anymore. I don’t know where they went,” said Sean.

He lamented that some of the Afghan residents hanged on to planes ‘terrified’ for their lives due to the Taliban rule.

“What I had heard is that they were locked in by the Taliban from the passenger side of the terminal and terrified for their lives, that if they left the tarmac, they’re gonna be killed – probably why there were hanging on to the airplanes leaving the country,” said Sean.

“I just couldn’t imagine wanting to leave my country so bad that I would hang on to an airplane as it left. Makes me wanna go home, a lot,” he added.

Sean is now among thousands of Americans waiting for planes from the United States to take them back home.

President Joe Biden assured that they will bring back all Americans and their allies to safety from Afghanistan.

“I was asked to authorize, and I did, 6,000 U.S. troops to deploy to Afghanistan for the purpose of assisting in the departure of U.S. and allied civilian personnel from Afghanistan and to evacuate our Afghan allies and vulnerable Afghans safely outside of Afghanistan,” said U.S. President Biden.
