KNOW THE LAW: AED 1,000 fine in Abu Dhabi for onlookers for crowding at fire, traffic accidents

While curiosity killed the cat – as the saying goes — it will definitely prove costly in dirhams to those wanting a closer view of traffic accidents or fires in Abu Dhabi.

A fine amounting to AED 1,000 will be imposed on such people for obstructing traffic (by gathering) during accidents, according to Article No.74 of the Federal Traffic and Traffic Law.

The Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence cautions the public against gathering at such sites because it poses a threat to their lives.

Authorities warned the public against taking videos of the vehicles involved in accidents and the injured, stressing that posting these pictures on social media without permission would make them legally accountable for their actions.

Gathering around such mishap sites is not only considered uncivilized behavior, but it also hinders the efforts of the first responder teams and distracts them from performing their basic tasks.

Onlookers also block police, civil defence, ambulance and rescue vehicles from reaching the accident site. (AW)
