LOOK: Huge oarfish spotted in Misamis Oriental

Another species of deep-sea fish has floated to the Philippine shores with the sighting of a huge oarfish.

Netizen Jose Jay Saligumba saw the long oarfish measuring 3.2 meters in length at Barangay 19, Gingood City in Misamis Oriental on the morning of August 20.

Residents, including Saligumba, have associated the appearance of deep-sea fish as signs of upcoming disasters.

“It has long been thought oarfish wash up on beaches ahead of earthquakes. Some scientists hypothesize that because deep-sea fish like the oarfish are closer to active faults, they could be more sensitive to chemical changes that happen in ocean water when earthquakes occur,” said Saligumba

Earlier, a large moonfish weighing up to 65 kilos was spotted by residents at Eastern Samar.
