PH hospital uses plastics, garbage bags as COVID-19 protection due to supply shortage

As the world faces a shortage of Personal Protective Equipment or PPE in hospitals with the rising cases of  coronavirus disease or COVID-19, this Philippine hospital is no exception. 
 
A hospital worker named Tes Despano, who works in St. Jude Hospital in Los Banos, Laguna posted photos of medical workers using plastics as face cover and garbage bags as protective suits.

She said that the limited supply of PPEs forced medical workers to improvise to protect themselves from the virus. 
 
“We are calling the attention of DOH or kung sino mang ahensya na maaaring makapag-supply sa amin ng Personal Protective Equipments. Naubos na po kasi ang PPE namin sa kaming hospital at wala na aming mabilihan,” she wrote. 
 
She also thanked the medical workers for their dedication. 
 
“Kaya nag improvise na lang kami para kahit papaano mapanatiling ligtas ang aming mga staff. Salamat sa lakas ng loob at dedikasyon ng aming mga staff para makatulong sa mga pasyente;” Despano added.

The Facebook post has gone viral on social media, with 13 thousand reactions and 11 thousand shares. 
 
The Philippines has confirmed 380 cases of COVID-19 in the country with 25 fatalities, including a medical doctor.
