Singapore will become the first country to prohibit ads on unhealthy and sugary drinks in its bid to stop diabetes.
The ad ban will apply to those which will be classified as “least healthy” sugar-sweetened beverages.
The ban will also cover all media platforms, including print, broadcast and online.
Singapore’s Ministry of Health said that they made the decision after a thorough public consultation.
This government initiative covers ad bans on drinks including soft drinks, juices, yogurt drinks and instant coffee.
The Ministry of Health, however, said that they will continue to get feedback from consumers and the industry to further improve the regulation.
