The family of rape-slay convict and former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez has refused to pay P12.6 million damages to the loved one of Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez who were killed in 1993.
“Bakit kami magbabayad e walang kasalanan ang asawa ko,” Sanchez’ wife Elvira said in a Senate hearing.
Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon questioned the family asked if they are refusing to follow the order of the Supreme Court.
The Sanchez family stood firm by saying that they don’t have any intention to abide by the ruling of the Supreme Court.
“Actually wala kami talaga kaming intensyon. Kasi po nagsasabi ako ng totoo, ‘yung sinasabi nilang araw at petsa na nirape at pinatay si Eileen Sarmenta at pinatay si Allan Gomez, nasa amin ang asawa ko, kasama ang anak ko,” Elvira said.
Drilon added that the Sanchez family could no longer use their defense because the courts have already rejected it.
