Trump just landed in Manila

US President Donald Trump landed in Manila for the ASEAN Summit at around 6 pm Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017.

As soon as Air Force One landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, the US president took to social media: “Just landed in the Philippines after a great day of meetings and events in Hanoi, Vietnam!”

This is the first ever visit of Trump to the Philippines as a world leader since his inauguration in January 2017. He is expected to stay until Tuesday, November 14.

Before his arrival, Trump had met with President Rodrigo Duterte on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings in Danang, Vietnam.
Trump’s Asian tour comes as the US rallies for tougher sanctions against North Korea’s nuclear program and ballistic missile tests.

Trump and Duterte had spoken twice over the phone in the past. The first one happened after Trump’s victory in the US presidential elections last year. Duterte spoke with him on the phone to congratulate him.

In April, Trump also called Duterte and the content conversation leaked online.
