The Abu Dhabi police announced decrease in speed limit from 100 km/h to 80 km/h on Al Fayah-Seih Shaib Road for both light and heavy vehicles to avoid death and serious injuries on the roads.
Last month, the authorities already decided on reducing the speed limit but only came into effect last Friday, September 1.
There was study conducted showing in the number of accidents during the first half of 2017, Colonel Ahmad Al Shahi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Traffic and Patrols Directorate told The National.
In order to ensure strict compliance to this new rule, a point-to-point speed cameras, which will calculate average speed of vehicles, will be installed along roads where accidents commonly occur.
Meanwhile, motorists can expect for more police patrols to be on duty along Abu Dhabi-Sila and Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road.
There were already prior attempts by Abu Dhabi Police in lessening accidents by scrapping the 50 percent discount in the cost of traffic fines.
