Duterte defends visits of son-in-law to BOC
President Rodrigo Duterte defended his son-in-law, Manases Carpio, who was accused of being involved in corruption issue surrounding the Bureau of Customs. Carpio is Duterte’s second relative to be involved in the P6 billion drug trade, following Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte. Duterte said Carpio’s visits in BOC was part of his job as a lawyer.

No way out for Maute
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Eduardo Ano assured that government troops will not allow members of Maute terrorist group to escape from Marawi City. Ano said AFP has tightened security around the besieged city to ensure that Maute reinforcements won’t be able to sneak in.

Marcoses offer to return wealth, gold bar — Duterte
President Rodrigo Duterte announced the Marcos family will return their gold bars and portion of their alleged hidden wealth after years of legal battle between them and the government. The president did not indicate the spokesperson’s name of the Marcos family or how much of the wealth would be returned to the government. Duterte also said that he will accept whatever reason the Marcoses have for keeping the gold bars and their wealth.

CCT bought guns for Reds — Duterte
President Rodrigo Duterte revealed that New People’s Army were able to acquire new firearms and ammunitions using the government’s conditional cash transfer program. Duterte said the CCT or Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program (4Ps) money was utilized during Judy Taguiwalo’s stint at the Department of Social Welfare and Development. Taguiwalo denied Duterte’s allegation and noted that “not a single peso of the 4Ps program passed through [her] hands”.
