A lawmaker at the House of Representatives on Thursday filed a measure that seeks to extend from three years to five years the validity of the professional identification card and certificate of registration issued by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
1-Ang Edukasyon Partylist Rep. Salvador Belaro filed House Bill No. 5870, otherwise known as the “PRC License Effectivity Act”.
In his explanatory note, Belaro said the three-year validity of a PRC license is “insufficient time” for professionals in continuing professional development.
“Continuing professional development takes time and finances to accomplish while practicing professions, living life with family, friends, and professional associates, and undertaking leisurely or life-enriching pursuits,” Belaro said.
Belaro noted that the precedent for the five-year PRC license validity is the maritime professionals’ compliance with the Standards of Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention.
“With this proposed legislation, we give professionals ample time for continuing professional development,” Belaro added. (Filane Mikee Cervantes/PNA)
