The UAE Ministry of Interior (MoI) has introduced its mobile unit of K9 trained police dogs to help in sniffing out coronavirus cases in major events and gatherings.
This is part of the government efforts to help medical frontlines.
There will be no direct contact between the COVID-19 sniffing dogs and individuals during the detection process. The unit will be used at major field events and competitions.
The process will involve people being required to give an armpit swab sample. It will be presented to the K9 trained police dogs inside a mobile vehicle.
The mobile unit will be made available in major events as an added measure to fight the spread of COVID-19.
Health authorities reported on Wednesday that COVID-19 cases in UAE is down for the fifth straight day.
The country has reported 2,204 new cases and eight deaths.
The country’s total confirmed cases now stands at 417,909 cases, including 1,353 fatalities due to COVID-19 related complications.
An additional 1,693 individuals meanwhile have recovered.
