A woman died after she was struck in the head with a hammer by her husband during a heated argument in their home in Tondo, Manila.
Police identified the fatality as Connie Romero, who works at Manila City Hall. The suspect, Eric Capulong, surrendered to Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno on Tuesday night in Bacoor City, Cavite, ABS-CBN’s TV Patrol reported.
Police said jealousy was the possible motive of the crime.
According to reports, a neighbor said the couple was heard arguing wherein the woman was trying to convince the man that she had no paramour. At dawn, Monday, the suspect was caught on a CCTV footage leaving their rented house together with their two children aged five and two.
Police Lt. Col. Carlo Manuel, public information officer of the Manila Police District (MPD), said it was Romero’s sibling who found the victim lying lifeless on a bed with severe head injuries. A hammer was found in the kitchen sink.
Police investigation showed that the victim tried to break up with her husband prior to the incident. The suspect admitted the crime. He said he saw a photo in his wife’s cell phone showing her with another man.
