UAE on its third consecutive year among top 10 countries worldwide for driverless vehicles

The UAE’s vision to ease transportation by infusing modernized driverless technologies takes on the world stage ranking among the world’s top 10 at KPMG’s 2020 Autonomous Vehicles Readiness Index for its third consecutive year.
UAE rose one rank from 9th place in 2019 to 8th this 2020 with a score of 22.23 from a combination of 28 individual measures as outlined by KPMG International in gauging the capabilities, resources, and technological advancements shown by each country in the list.

“The UAE continues to remain steadfast in its resolve to move towards autonomous vehicles. Given its strong interest in AI, blockchain, 5G and maintaining good-quality roads, they are on the way to doing it,” said Ravi Suri, Partner, Global Head of Infrastructure Finance, KPMG in the Lower Gulf.
Suri also noted that the UAE government’s focus on streamlining efforts to develop and promote smart technologies on various sectors, including transportation, will help towards pushing for autonomous vehicles towards its consumer acceptance and creating an infrastructure for these vehicles on the roads.

The KPMG report furthered that the recent appointment of His Excellency Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Teleworking Applications along with initiatives and programs towards progressive development on AI will steer the UAE’s strategy to fulfill its goal to reach up to 25% of transport to be autonomous by 2030.
