Man sets himself on fire over driving test failure in Dubai

A Pakistani has tried to set himself on fire after repeatedly failing driving tests that costed him all his savings and is now awaiting verdict from the Dubai Court of Misdemeanours.

The man went to Galadari Motor Driving Centre in Al Qusais to take bulldozer driving tests but was denied a driving license.

“He became extremely angry and frustrated after he was denied a driving license, then we went outside and I heard him repeating that he better die but I didn’t expect that he was serious,” said the man’s friend in a report from The National.

“He then walked away and returned a few minutes later carrying a bucket of diesel,” his friend added.

The Pakistani then poured the diesel into his body and when he was about to reach his pocket for a lighter, his friends immediately stopped him from burning himself.

“We convinced him that we could go back inside and try again,” his friend said.

The man appeared to have been trying to have his license for more than a year now and was left with no money.
