Can deodorants cause cancer; powder products activates memory?

The Dubai Municipality announced in a series of posts this week that the aluminium content in deodorants are not cancer-causing contrary to rumors in social media and that the claims of Refwa Royal Honey Power products are unproven.

“Public Health and Safety Department at Dubai Municipality responds to the recent rumor related to deodorants and anti per spirants causing breast cancer. It states that there are no reliable scientific studies confirming harmful results and risks from the use of Aluminum compounds in formulas,” read an Instagram post by the municipal body on Monday.

On Tuesday, it also discouraged consumers from patronizing Refwa Royal Honey products.

“The product was registered by Dubai Municipality but no approval was issued for the allegations mentioned in the advertisements and no certificates and accredited studies were given to approve and emphasize the allegations,” it said.

In an online store, the powder is marketed as a natural source of energy that improves one’s immune system, activation of blood, and memory. The series of announcements comes as Dubai celebrates Food Safety Week and after a recent crackdown on unsafe products in beauty outlets.

As for deodorants, the Dubai Municipality said the alarming allegation on some deodorant content is “under studies by international accredited concerned bodies.”

“DM assures that the products are effectively controlled to ensure products safety and meet implemented standard and current regulations,” it added.
